Outback
Outback by Patricia Wolf
Give me 12 hours, a beachside holiday and I’ll finish a book. Didn’t think I had it in me anymore, but alas Patricia Wolf produces this outback crime novel and I am in hook, line and sinker. For me, this has everything I needed. Country town, missing backpackers, drug runners posing as truck drivers, corrupt cops, drug mules and local family history.
The story follows DS Lucas Walker, on personal leave back in his hometown of Caloodie (fictional town but I am barracking for it to be real), taking care of his dying grandmother. But of course, he is roped into an investigation of two missing back-packers, the local cop is useless and the sister of the backpacker (who is also a cop) comes over from Berlin.
It was jam-packed, chapters were short enough to hook you, enough to make you look at your watch and think I should go to bed, but don’t. Highly recommend it if you are looking for something to suck you in and spit you out. Will definitely be picking up the sequel.
