A Million Things
A Million Things by Emily Spurr
If you can get tears out of me when reading a story, then I’m done. It’s a five star read. It’s top of the list and it’s being recommended to everyone I know. A Million Things is exactly that.
I have had this on my bookshelf for two years. Why I haven’t picked it up until now I DON’T KNOW (don’t come at me) but I’m here and yes I read this in 17 hours.
I LOVED THIS. SO SO MUCH. What is there to say? I don’t want to ruin anything about this book before you read it yourself. The story follows Rae, a ten year old navigating through her life without her mum. Meeting her hoarder next door neighbour Lettie, trying to ignore the kid across the road (Oscar) and who dobs on her regularly and of course her beautiful relationship with Splinter, her dog. That is all you need to know. Can’t say anymore.
What I will say, is that Emily Spurr is bloody incredible with her writing. I felt like I was reading on clouds, the writing is perfect. I was laughing out loud and crying tears (literally tears rolling down my face, under my double chin and into my neck). This isn’t just a story about Rae. It’s a story of grief and loss, of understanding and compassion, of love and just pure grit (and obviously how good dogs are). Thank you Emily Spurr for letting me into Rae’s world. I just didn’t want to leave.
