Everyone and Everything

Everyone and Everything by Nadine J Cohen.

I have unknowingly read lots of articles by Nadine over the years, so when the Book Club selected this I knew it would be good. And I wasn’t wrong. I really enjoyed this debut novel from Cohen. The story follows Yael, taking each day as it comes whilst struggling with depression, anxiety and grief. Throw in a Jewish family, a new found love with the Coogee sea baths and just some all round hilarious relationships with her sister and a 70+ year old woman and you have yourself a great novel. As someone with an older sister, I deeply understood this relationship. Sisters are an incredible bond and somehow they are always there when you need them the most. Even when you/they don’t ask.

The characters are loveable and the dialogue is hilarious. I was doing the old “HA!” when reading in public and I wasn’t even embarrassed. I love the relationships built between all the characters and the completely realistic storyline of someone going through mental health battles, grief, whilst trying to get to a point where they can work again and potentially fall in love. Or be surrounded by love.

Definitely recommending this to anyone looking for a beautiful read.
