Honey Blood
Honey Bloody by Kirsty Everett
I had saved this book on my goodreads list back in 2021. I saw a post about it by BecaBoolshelf and finally I have been able to get to it.
Honey Blood is a memoir by Kirsty Everett. A proud Darug woman and a two time survivor of cancer. The memoir is incredibly raw and quite unbelievable in that she is here to tell the tale of her life.
Everett is quite the storyteller and I was hooked on this story from the beginning. As a determined and promising young gymnast, Kirsty was ready to take on the world. And then bang. It hits. Years of lumbar punctures, blood transfusions, chemo at such a young age, watching kids her age pass away around her; it’s horrible. The success story of cancer treatment rings true but unfortunately after four years of remission Kirsty falls into the cancer battle again. So here we are doing three years of chemo at the age of 16, when Kirsty should be experiencing life as a teenager.
We follow Kirsty’s family and the incredible support from her parents and siblings, her friends and her young loves (yes she falls in love and it’s beautiful).
Kirsty is strong, determined and a vision of hope for cancer sufferers. I highly recommend this memoir.
