Death Valley
There was promise here, the vibes were high going in. I was ready. But the vibes dropped and it just did not hit the mark for me. Broder is obviously known for her unique style of writing and this definitely followed her previous work but it just felt underwhelming.
I fully understand the premise, Broder constructs the storyline around grief (both existing and incoming) and depression and then throws in a woman getting lost in the desert with a non-existent cactus where she gets inside it? And animals talk to her? I felt like it was a bit scattergun with the dialogue and the general storyline.
I don’t think this has put me off Broder’s books at all. I would be interested to see what people thought of it. Did you vibe the interior of the cactus? Send me your cacti vibes.
