Counting the Cost

I’m a sucker for an audiobook where the subject narrates. I started listening to Counting the Cost and I was surprised how I raced through it (speed 1.5 obviously) The story follows Jill Duggar, the second daughter in the Duggar family. You may know them as the family on TLC that had the show 19 Kids and Counting (I physically cringe at the thought of four children let alone anything in the teens!). This story is the honest thoughts of Jill and her husband Derick as they attempt to understand life outside of their family and faith. You start to understand the pressure and general unknown that they were raised. No idea about anything other than the scripture they were taught, the ideas that were following what their parents told them. Red flags everywhere.

Stepping away from this sort of life is difficult for anyone and Jill and Derick were able to discover their life outside of family filming, male superiority, parental authority and false teachings. After years of therapy, two children and a life on the outside, Jill and Derick are able to tell their story.

I really enjoyed this as something different. Would recommend.
